Five signs your siding needs repair attention
Catch exterior problems early — before a small repair turns into a full replacement.
Most exterior failures give you warning signs long before they become expensive. Here are five worth watching for on your home or building.
1. Movement or loose panels
Siding that rattles, lifts in wind, or has visibly loosened is no longer sealing the wall. Left alone, wind-driven rain gets behind it.
2. Water marks or staining
Streaks, dark patches, or staining — especially below windows and at transitions — often mean water is getting in where it shouldn’t.
3. Missing or damaged trim
Trim isn’t just cosmetic. Gaps at corners, edges, and penetrations are exactly where water finds its way behind the cladding.
4. Soffit and ventilation issues
Sagging soffit, blocked vents, or signs of moisture in the eaves affect how the whole assembly breathes. Poor ventilation shortens the life of everything above it.
5. Impact damage
Cracks and holes from storms or debris are entry points. Even small ones are worth closing before the next freeze–thaw cycle widens them.
The rule of thumb: a targeted repair now is almost always cheaper than a replacement later. If you’ve spotted any of these, a quick site assessment will tell you whether it’s a small fix or something that needs a plan.
